TRAVELING CHALICE FOR VOCATIONS

Picture
The purpose of the Traveling Chalice program is to encourage families and parishioners to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The chalice is a visual reminder of the importance of Christ's body and blood as central to our faith and the role of the priest at Mass. Additionally, the chalice is rich with Church history and a testament to the power of the Eucharist which is at the root of the Faith. The Second Vatican Council highlighted the responsibility of the laity in fostering vocations. The writings of Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict also encourage our active participation in supporting vocations.
HOW IT WORKS:
  • The chalice is picked up on Sunday following the 9:30am Mass (please see Fr. Charles or the Filianos) or from the office on Monday (9am-1pm).
  • Families (or individuals) bring the chalice home for one week, gathering around it daily and praying the Vocation Prayer (included with the chalice) along with any other prayers of the participants' choosing.
  • The chalice is returned after one of the following weekend's Masses.
  • If you'd like to reserve a week, please call the office to do so. (603-448-1262)

NEEDS IT FULFILLS:
The program aims to help us become acutely aware of the need for priests and those called to religious life. For families, it allows them to pray and reflect on the calling that God might be presenting to one of their members as a beautiful way of serving His Church.
The Traveling Chalice Program is supported by the Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus, Lebanon Council #2656.
