RECONCILIATION

Picture
Through the sacraments of Christian initiation, man receives the new life of Christ. Now we carry this life "in earthen vessels," and it remains  "hidden with Christ in God." We are still in our "earthly tent," subject to suffering, illness, and death. This new life as a child of God can be weakened and even lost by sin. The Lord Jesus Christ, physician of our souls and bodies, who forgave the sins of the paralytic and restored him to bodily health, has willed that his Church continue, in the power of the Holy Spirit, his work of healing and salvation, even among her own members. This is the purpose of the two sacraments of healing: the sacrament of Penance and the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.

Catechism of the Catholic Church (1420, 1421)
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
John 20:21-23

Confessions are heard on
Saturdays from 2:45 to 3:30 pm, or by appointment.
Examination of Conscience
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is a sacrament of healing. Like all sacraments, it is an encounter with Jesus Christ.  Reconciliation is necessary for our salvation, growth, healing, and strength as Christians and disciples of the Lord.

FIRST RECONCILIATION
The first experience of the Sacrament of Penance may be celebrated during second grade, as part of a child's  preparation before being Confirmed and receiving First Eucharist typically in third grade.  Children from Catholic and  public schools, as well as those who are homeschooled, are prepared for the celebration of the sacrament here at the parish.  Sacred Heart offers a variety of ways to assist the family in helping their child prepare for First Reconciliation.
